Idalina Suzanne Afopa, APN Nurse Practitioner
Idalina S. Afopa is a Family Nurse Practitioner, ANCC Board Certified with extensive experience in HIV, viral hepatitis, urgent care and and geriatrics. She is certified in Mental Health. She began her education by graduating with a Master’s in Law from University of Aix-En-Provence, France in 1993. She later completed both her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing at Pace University in Manhattan, New York.
She has an eclectic RN experience in Cardio thoracic, Surgical ICU and Home Care. She started her NP career with United health Care/Optum in Brooklyn NY caring for Geriatric patients. She worked at the NYU Langone Emergency Room Follow Up before she joined the Bronx VA as the Infectious Diseases Nurse Practitioner.
She cared for patients with HIV and viral hepatitis B and C in the ID clinics. She was instrumental in expanding the Prep for HIV Prevention Program at the Bronx VA. She continues to serve those who served at the VISN 2 VA New York/New Jersey Healthcare System Virtual Urgent Care Clinic since September 2021.
She is an active member of the Cape Verdean American Medical Society and the American Association of French Speaking Health Professionals in New York. She is a multilingual native French speaker, fluent in English with a conversational Portuguese and Spanish.
