Jose Alexandre Rodrigues, Ph.D., is an 8th year D.O.-Ph.D. trainee and OMS-IV at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His thesis work, under the direction of Dr. Shannon Manning Ph.D., M.P.H., described the molecular epidemiology of C. jejuni infections in Michigan. Whole genome sequencing and phylogenomic approaches were used to investigate the population structure of antibiotic resistant C. jejuni an important public health threat. As a future pediatric physician-scientist, he is looking to pursue further training including in residency training programs such as physician-scientist training residency programs and postdoctoral experiences studying infectious disease dynamics, utilizing mathematical modeling and phylogenomic analysis. Jose serves as the Immediate Past President of the American Physician Scientists Association (APSA). Throughout his service with APSA, Jose spearheaded efforts to create a diverse and robust physician-scientist workforce including the nationally recognized Physician-scientist trainee diversity summit held in 2019 and the subsequent creation of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee as a permanent standing committee on the executive council of APSA.
